Christian Aid Week 10th-16th May 2021

Climate change affects us all but those communities living in poverty struggle with it everyday as drought or flooding made worse by climate change robs them of a reliable supply of clean water.   Together though we can help stop this climate crisis and give people the water they need to live.  Please watch for the envelope dropping through your letter box or donate online today.  Thank you.

The Easter Garden

Singing in the churchyard

A day of glorious sunshine to celebrate the risen Lord, a day made even more special by the fact that not only was it our first service in church for some time but we also all came out into the churchyard to sing that lovely Easter hymn, ‘Thine be the glory, risen, conquering son’.

We were then all ready in position for the ‘official’ opening of our new toilets.  Our thanks to all involved in the project, in particular Russ, Ross, Viridor and, of course, our fabric officer, Bryan.

Good News!

We are pleased to announce that St Disen’s will be open again for services on Sundays from Easter.  Our first service will be Holy Communion on Easter Sunday at 10.30am.  See What’s On for details of future services.

Please note that (Covid 19) Coronavirus restrictions regarding social distancing and mask wearing etc for Places of Worship will apply.

The Canterbury Connection

On 21st February 1173 Thomas Becket was canonised by Pope Alexander III.  So what has this to do with the parish of Bradninch?  Well, one of the four knights responsible for his murder in Canterbury Cathedral just over two years earlier  was William de Tracy, Baron of Bradninch.  Read more on our new Connections page.

Church closure

We deeply regret that St Disen’s is now temporarily closed.  We will re-open as soon as we feel it is wise to do so.

In the meantime please do join us in saying the Lord’s Prayer at 10.30am on a Sunday morning.

Many churches and cathedrals continue to stream their services on-line.  Our Altogether Not Together page has some links that you can follow.

Jesus Emmanuel, God with us

Our Lady and Child

‘The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.’  ‘In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’ (John 1.14, 4-5).  As we move forward into an uncertain new year during this dark time of pandemic we take comfort and hope from Jesus our Emmanuel, God with us.  ‘Your word [Lord] is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path’ (Psalm 119.105).  Happy New Year.
