Today is Advent Sunday, the first of the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin, ‘to come’, and so we start to look forward to Christmas, to celebrating the birth of Jesus, the light of the world. And so to celebrate, we light the first candle on our Advent Wreath. The colours of the candles, purple, pink and white, are traditional, symbolising royalty, joy and light.
