There But Not There

The silhouette of a WWI soldier has been set up outside the Guildhall.  The soldier is part of a nationwide art installation called ‘There But Not There‘, as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by so many during the war and in doing so raise funds for the charity Remembered.

Close to the war memorial, ‘visible’ to all passers by and backed by a wall of poppies, this is a good place for a soldier.  The beautiful poppies, crafted by the Bradninch WI and others  have blossomed profusely, just as their real counterparts did on the fields of Flanders a century ago.  The purple poppies are a reminder of the thousands of animals that also served, and died, during the war.

Afternoon Tea at St Disens

Preparing tea

Enjoying afternoon tea

A cheerful, chatty group of church friends came together on Sunday afternoon to enjoy a special tea, including egg sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, Victoria sponge and apple cake, to celebrate the end of our Gift Week.

Gift Week & Afternoon Tea

St Disen’s will be holding its annual Gift Week from 2nd to 8th September. As in previous years all monies raised will go directly to the care and maintenance of the church and church hall. Please help us to continue to look after these buildings. Thankyou
And, to mark the end of Gift Week we are holding a Thank you Tea at 4.00pm on Sunday 9th September. All welcome.

Knit & Natter

Knit & Natter returns on Tuesday 18th September from 2.00 – 4.00pm in St Disen’s Church Hall. Help is available with your knitting and crochet if you need it, but please bring along any craft. Light refreshments served.

The Children’s Society

A most successful coffee morning was held on 2nd August to coincide with the annual opening of the collection boxes. A grand total of £911.50 has been raised this year. A big thank you to everyone – all that loose change adds up!

Coffee Mornings

Thank you to all who supported our recent coffee mornings in aid of our organ fund and the Childrens Society which between them raised some £400. But coffee mornings aren’t all about making money. They’re about meeting and making friends over a cup of coffee (or tea). So why not come and join us at our next Coffee Morning on Wednesday 22nd August at 10.00am in the Church Hall.

Wedding on 7th July

Congratulations to Ruth and David who were married in St Disen’s Church on 7th July. A lovely occasion on a beautiful day.
